Had a yoga-tastic weekend!
Had a simply superb lunch on Saturday in a great Iranian restaurant (Alounak) in W14 where, on the table next to us, sat a young woman (Carrie) who I’d worked with about 10 years earlier on a production of Joanna Volinska’s ‘Yzeegus.’ We, and she, were there simply by chance. Suffice to say it was a really pleasing addition to an already fab day. After ‘dropping in’ on a friend of ours (who drops in on anyone anymore?) Saturday evening was spent attending the 2011 Yoga Asana Championships. I wasn’t too sure what to expect, maybe a little more laid back, a bit more chilled, not a bit of it. – It was INTENSE. I’d gone along to take some shots of the event (portfolio building), but after about 20 minutes just put the camera away and watched. Sometimes you have to. Everyone held their collective breaths for a couple of hours whilst the competitors went through their poses – some of which defied reason, at the very least they did mine, but despite my doubts must be humanly possible as I watched them do it. BIG THANKS for all the competitors for showing what can be done given the time, dedication and committment. Stunning! If I may be alllowed to jump on the back of some of the glory for just one moment… Kristin Bergman (one of the teacher’s at the Bikram Studio in Richmond) won the Women’s Division! Yey Kristin! Sunday was another yoga day. Mary Jarvis (who’d been one of the judges the previous day) held a seminar at the Bikram Studio in Richmond. She is a Bikram ambassador and truly inspirational. After leading us through the practice, she talked about her experiences and some of the people she’d practiced with, and then guided us through some of the poses to enable us to deepen them. It worked. Back-bend-tastic! A weekend of surprise, inspiration, joy and love followed, this coming week, by CAKE! Who could ask for more?
